From its beginnings as a prolific manufacturer of pens, Brandauer has become an institution in the UK with a reputation for making top-quality pressings across a wide range of sectors.
The commitment to excellence applied today ensures the ongoing prosperity of a firm with a rich history in delivering innovative precision engineered solutions.
Whether it be the pen nibs manufactured in the 1800s or the micron-splitting capabilities of today, one word which has always applied to Brandauer’s core competency is precision. This principle is underpinned by a culture of inclusivity amongst all staff, who recognise unreservedly the importance of this persistent ethos.
Long-serving employees have always been a feature of life at Brandauer. The record is believed to be held by Mrs Fanny Phillips, who retired at Christmas 1961 after working for the company for 71 years! However, there are countless other examples. A toolmaker retired in August 1935 after 63 years and during the 1960s, several of the last of the pen workers left with 43 years’ service. Two or three generations of the same family were also frequently employed at the factory.
Brandauer approaches 160 years of business and its history is well documented and preserved. The business can offer a comprehensive publication on its history, an archive room onsite including pen nib samples manufactured from 1862 onwards, as well as a timeline of historical moments exhibited onsite in reception, at the Birmingham Pen Museum and the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
