Brandauer’s story of electrification: Part Two
As the plans for electrically powered vehicles ploughs on and signals the end of the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040, there will be heavy demand on PCB manufacturers.
Brandauer will be showcasing some of its specialist metal component capabilities at Coiltech 2018 in Pordenone, Italy which includes electrical steel lamination manufacture.
QUiCKFairs’ Coiltech is the fastest growing international exhibition for the Coil & Winding industry. Visitors from all over the world attend with a keen interest in the innovative materials, components and machinery available for the production of electric motors, generators, transformers and winding systems.
As well as showcasing specific components to befit the industry and pique the interest of Coiltech visitors, Brandauer is keen to display its expert capabilities as an ‘all under one roof’ precision stamping company. A capability which offers the complete range of services required for the supply of pressed metal components: from prototyping, design and in-house tool production (or a specialist tool transfer service) through to high-quality manufacturing and logistics.
Electrical steel is the spine of Coiltech’s offering and the subject of expert-lead seminars during their World Magnetic Conference (WMC), which represents a strategic opportunity to learn about the latest innovations in the field.
Electrical steel is tailored to produce specific magnetic properties which results in low power loss per cycle, low core loss and high permeability. Its benefits are well documented, but it takes an expert precision stamping company to transform the raw material coil into an electrical steel lamination that can satisfy the most pioneering electrical motor, generator and transformer project.
Between them, Coiltech exhibitors cover all stages of electric motor production and it’s an opportunity to take advantage of the information they share on the evolution of the market. Brandauer will play a big role in that chain of information at this year’s show by sharing the procedures that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of any device using electrical steel lamination.
Brandauer stamp electrical coil steel into laminations which are stacked together to form the cores of transformers, and the stator and rotor of electric motors. Smaller quantities and prototypes are cut by wire EDM machines which are all fully integrated with CAD/CAM software.
Brandauer manufacture these as small as 12mm in diameter and just 0.1mm in thickness. Loose, bonded and interlocked, electrical steel laminations stamped by Brandauer are made within some of the most precise and stringent specifications in the industry and are consistently accurate to within just 20 microns. A human hair, for comparison, is 50 microns thick!
When you’re making parts for the next generation of electric motors, generators, and transformers, this kind of accuracy and professionalism is of paramount importance. More about Electrical Steel Lamination Here.
With a history exceeding 150 years of manufacturing excellence and constantly at the threshold of precision stamping capabilities, Brandauer are not only specialists in certain areas, whether it be electrical steel lamination or otherwise, but they are a full-service precision stamper who can take seemingly impossible concepts and bring them to full-scale production.
Brandauer take a consultative approach at the start of any stamping project. In-house design experts work alongside customers on specified drawings to deliver shorter lead times and more efficient long-term production.
The rarity of the Wire EDM machines in the UK showcase a serious commitment to continuous improvement and investment in new technology. Not only in the production of prototypes but they are also crucial in the manufacture of Brandauer’s 3 unique tooling standards.
Since Brandauer has continued to evolve over the course of its history and are now considered a world-class engineering company, specialising in the manufacture of high speed precision stamped components, in difficult materials, for a wide range of industry sectors.
Thanks to Brandauer’s presence at Coiltech, there’s no better opportunity for the European market to get face-to-face with a UK-based manufacturer who exports 75% of its products and are truly established as a globally competitive precision stamper.
