Renewables
Renewables is a major growth market for Brandauer and globally. With the world becoming greener, it is hard for companies to ignore the innovation happening in the renewables sector.
For Brandauer, our role plays in the unseen, huge projects and undertaking are being propped up by a Brandauer component. Typical end-user products that have our components in are:
- Smart metering technologies
- Low energy lighting contacts
- Fuel cell components
- Portable battery contacts
- Electrical steel laminations
- Water conversion components
Catering for new developments within the renewables sector
With Brandauer conscious on the negative environmental impacts that are happening across the world each day, and contributing to the renewables sector is one way that Brandauer are helping to fight climate change.
With new developments happening in this sector every day, Brandauer’s concept to production process is a key factor to helping this sector develop new and incredible solutions. But how does this work?
Concept stage
The benefits of working with Brandauer don’t just stop at manufacturing components. By engaging with the team early in your design process, you gain access to consultancy expertise, in-house design team and New Product Introduction (NPI) capabilities.
Prototyping stage
Once a component has gone through DFM reviews and is ready to be tested, Brandauer’s prototyping service allows for a cost-effective way to get physical components in your hand. This is backed by a quick 48-hour turnaround process so once your component is ready to go, physical samples can be in your teams’ hands in no time. This also goes for formed components as Brandauer has a standard tooled metal forming machine which can form flat blank components to pre-programmed forms.
Low-volume production
Sometimes, once production begins, volumes are at the levels you are aiming to get to in the future. Proving your concept to customers, investors and the market is going to be a journey, and it’s a journey Brandauer want to go on with their customers. Beginning with a low-volume solution, components can be manufactured in-house without a tool whilst you prove your concept to the market.
Full-scale production
The solution and innovation has proven itself and volume has grown exponentially, laser cutting and metal forming is now not a viable manufacturing method, and a tool would be a lot more cost effective for the component. This transition is something Brandauer can support all customers on. We have been designing and building tools for over a century and know all the pitfalls when going down a tooled approach. Brandauer are here to work closely with you to complete the transition into a fully-tooled, high-volume application.
Continued high volume
Now that a tool is manufactured and implemented, Brandauer can continue the relationship by manufacturing the component for many years to come. Supporting the high-volume application is a capability Brandauer has had for decades, and it is at the heart of our capabilities.
This showcases the potential of a strategic partnership between Brandauer and our customers, some of which are taking full advantage of this opportunity. This kind of development and implementation is a process that companies within the renewables sector is taking huge advantage of.

Renewables case study
Case Study – Energy Storage Devices
Component Name = Lamination stack for use in energy storage device
Volume = 50,000 parts (1 off batch)
Value = £50k GBP
Problem
The customer found a difficulty in finding a low volume, cost-effective solutions for thin gauge (0.2mm) laminations for a one-off project.
Solution
Brandauer managed to take this project into our laser cutting department, manufacturing the components with no upfront tooling cost whilst still working to very tight tolerances. After laser cutting, they were integrated into a back lack bonding process which was aided by our 3D printed bonding assembly fixture, ensuring a cost-effective solution for this project.
