With the new ISO 45001 replacing the OHSAS 18001 health and safety standard and a deadline of March 2021, how will manufacturers adjust to the change? The Manufacturing Management Magazine asked Brandauer CEO Rowan Crozier, alongside other manufacturing companies about their say on the new occupational standard.
The newly adopted ISO 45001 is used by a wide range of countries as the international standard on occupational health and safety, replacing the OHSAS 18001 which was purely a British standard. It has a broader focus than OHSAS 18001, with many knock-on benefits that affect the structure and leadership of the businesses.
Applicable for any organisation size, the ISO 45001 presents an increased awareness of health & safety in the workplace, a safer environment for employees by reducing absenteeism and sickness levels, and a more strategic approach for greater engagement throughout the business. Also, in its favour is the similarities to the quality and environmental management standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 whereby the implementation and compliance of the new ISO 45001 should face little difficulty.
