Brandauer was proud to welcome the Rt Hon Shabana Mahmood MP to its Birmingham headquarters for a hands-on look at British precision engineering in action.
As Secretary of State for Justice and MP for Birmingham Ladywood, Shabana’s visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the innovation, skills and strategic direction driving success at one of the UK’s leading stamping specialists.
What the visit entailed
From testing her hand on a metal forming press to laser cutting and cable clip packaging, Shabana experienced the breadth of Brandauer’s world-class manufacturing capabilities first-hand. She toured the full razor blade production line – which we are currently supplying to LORD International – and saw how home-grown innovation moves from prototyping to high-volume output.
The visit also included insightful conversations with Brandauer CEO Rowan Crozier MBE about Brandauer’s award-winning apprenticeship scheme and its evolving structure to support long-term retention. You can read more about how we nurture our homegrown talent on our website.
In the laser room, she met some of the talented young apprentices helping shape the future of UK manufacturing. There was also discussion around factory layout changes that are driving significant productivity improvements and the company’s work manufacturing grab rings exported globally to the Netherlands, the USA and across the UK.
A key focus of the visit was the circular economy. Shabana showed particular interest in how Brandauer sources, processes and repurposes materials to yield the best possible value – highlighting the importance of sustainable practice within the precision engineering supply chain.
Talk also turned to the future of UK industry, with discussion around the vital role of a coherent industrial strategy. Shabana recognised the value of organisations like MAKE UK in bridging the gap between SME manufacturers and the government.
